Two types to choose from Set-up Polishing Wheels Or Greaseless Abrasive Wheels Abrasive "set up" Polishing Wheels for Fast and Smooth Sanding These wheels are used for removing any where from rough casting, pits,
and heavy too fine scratches, on any type of metal, leaving your work with a smooth uniform finish, that is ready for your buffing procedures. This type of abrasive wheel has been used for decades in many polishing and plating shops and
to this day are still one of the least expensive ways to do your abrasive (polishing) work. Not to mention their unique cutting action that is very fast and uniform, while at the same time, do not gouge the surface of the metal being polished. Although may be used on smaller hand held power tools for wheels sizes of 2" through 4" diameter. Areas needing polishing (sanding) less than 2" diameter are best suited for tapered goblet buffs and less than 1" diameter use abrasive rolls. Maximum RPM for Set-Up wheel sizes are as follows. 1" through 4" diameter, maximum RPM, 3600. 6" through 12" diameter, maximum RPM, 1800.

Please note, to make an abrasive "set up" polishing wheel, you need, Cold Glue,
Tallow Grease, Cleaning Brick and the Emery grit you will be applying to your wheel.
For cast iron, start with 80. For cast aluminum, start with 80 or 120. For removing mild casting and pits, also heavy scratches and most steel parts being polished prior to plating, start with 120 For mild scratches and pits, start with 180.
NOTE, never use 240 for a starting point with this type of abrasive, always use the 180 first. Cold Glue, Emery and Wheel Adhesive

Tallow Grease abrasive lubrication
Required for set-up wheels to reduce heat, dust and harsh cutting, to greatly extend the wheel life, while providing a smoother more uniform finish, making it much easier to buff out.
Without Tallow Grease, your abrasive wheels become worn down in only a few minutes. For use with "set up" wheels and abrasive rolls. Available in 4 oz. $2.99, 8 oz. $4.99 or 22 oz. $8.95.
Pumice cleaning brick
This Pumice brick is used to remove the Tallow Grease from your set-up wheels to allow

Greaseless Abrasive is applied similar to buffing compounds and air dries to form a hard abrasive crust on the face of the wheel.
What grits do you need for Greaseless Abrasive ?
For cast iron, start with 80. For cast aluminum, start with 80. For removing mild casting and pits, also heavy scratches and most steel parts being polished prior to plating, start with 80. For mild scratches and pits, such as in stainless steel trim, start with 180 or 320. in a timely manner, then 400 grit would be used to produce a finer line pattern for buffing to be effective. |
